Biography
Jessye Norman was an actress who had a successful Hollywood career. She worked in series television while getting her start in acting, including a part on "Evening at Pops" (PBS, 1969-2002). She appeared in a number of television specials, including "Met Centennial Gala Telecast" (1983-84), "Les Troyens" (PBS, 1983-84) and "Ozawa" (PBS, 1986-87). She also appeared in "Carnegie Hall: The Grand Reopening" (CBS, 1986-87). Norman also contributed music to the period drama "La Revolution Francaise" (1989) with Klaus Maria Brandauer. In the eighties and the nineties, Norman devoted her time to various credits, such as "Mozart in Salzburg" (PBS, 1989-1990), "New York Philharmonic Opening Night With Zubin Mehta and Jessye Norman" (PBS, 1989-1990) and "Wild At Heart" (1990). She also worked on "R.S.V.P." with Daniel MacIvor (1993). Norman's music was most recently featured in the dramatic adaptation "Choke" (2008) with Sam Rockwell. Norman had a number of different projects under her belt in the nineties through the early 2000s, including "Smithsonian's Great Battles of the Civil War" (TLC, 1994-95), "New York Philharmonic Opening Night -- Kurt Masur and Jessye Norman" (PBS, 1995-96) and "The Kennedy Center Honors: A Celebration of the Performing Arts" (CBS, 1995-96). Her credits also expanded to "Absolute Wilson" (2006) starring Robert Wilson.
