Synopsis

Heidi, an orphan, lives in the Swiss Alps with her gruff but kindly grandfather. One day Aunt Dete whisks the girl away to Frankfurt, where Heidi is hired as a companion to crippled Klara Sesemann. Despite the remonstrances of the child's governess, Miss Rottenmeier, the girls become close friends. Under Heidi's supervision Klara takes her first tentative steps. Despite her joy at Klara's probable recovery, Heidi longs for her Alpine home. When Heidi sickens, Klara's sympathetic physician, Dr. Klassen, suggests her return. Heidi is joyfully reunited with her beloved grandfather and afterwards visited by her Frankfurt friends.
