Synopsis

Heartbroken by the medical confirmation of her sterility, Kim Lussier appeals to her husband Keith to pursue an immediate adoption. Keith, unsure that he is ready to become a father, tries to delay the process before reluctantly yielding to Kim's pleas. As the Lussiers prepare for the arrival of their adoptive infant daughter Brittany Marie, Kim is suddenly diagnosed with uterine cancer. Edna Humphries, from the adoption agency, allows the Lussiers to begin caring for the child, with the hope that Kim's treatments will rid her of the disease. When Kim succumbs to the cancer, a conflicted Edna returns to take the baby away because of agency rules against single parent adoptions. Keith is devastated but doesn't give up. With the support of Kim's parents and his own, he decides to enlist the aid of the media and the law in a desperate attempt to complete the adoption of the child to whom he and his wife had become so devoted. Based on a true story.
