Synopsis
A journey into the lives of First Nation Canadian women living on the reserve in 1976 and the presence of a spiritual phenomena that employs the dark side. Ella Lee Thompson, the only married sister of four, exists as a wife and mother oppressed by her abusive husband Eric. She wants out. Plagued by both her power and beauty she is virtually hunted by the 'white man'. Racist cop Larry and pathetic store owner Marc Leduc both use rape and assault in an attempt to break her spirit. She has reached the breaking point. Beaten again and accused of infidelity, she bludgeons her husband to death. Enter her sisters. Ruby is a brash, strong advocate for Ella Lee who takes control and with their other sister Tammy seeks to find solutions to the impossible situation. Grace, a lawyer who left the reserve 17 years ago, returns home to help. She is the one sister who can face her past, the undeniable presence of the dark energy and the greatest villain of all, the Bearwalker.
