Synopsis
The story of a family that undergoes a transformation when faced with a decision about caring for one of its own, a woman with mental retardation. In her will, Rose has named her granddaughter Mary Beth, a college senior, the legal guardian of her developmentally disabled mother Sarah. Upon Rose's death, Mary Beth is faced with a heartrending choice -- to abandon her career dreams to care for Sarah or to commit Sarah to an institution until she can complete medical school. But mother and daughter choose a different and riskier path by deciding to give Sarah a chance at the independence she has been denied all her life.
