Synopsis

Andrea is a divorce lawyer, Sofia a therapist, Irene a fashion designer and Lilly a visual artist. Luminarias is an east Los Angeles restaurant where these four professional women come together to share secrets about their careers, loves, family and sex. All four women have achieved considerable professional success, but each has failed in their attempt to secure emotional and romantic stability. Through unexpected circumstances, each woman has the opportunity to find true love... but they must first question the long-held cultural and economic prejudices which have kept their hearts in prolonged isolation.

Initially unable to finance the film, husband-and-wife team of director Jose Luis Valenzuela and screenwriter-actress Evelina Fernandez first produced the script as a stage play for the Latino Theater Company at the LA Theater Center. The four lead actresses (Fernandez, DuBois, Ortelli and Moya) all reprise their stage roles for the film.
