Synopsis

Doris Roberts, the brains behind the Roberts Costume Company, gives up her job when her husband John complains that she is neglecting her young son. As soon as she leaves, things rapidly deteriorate at the firm, but Doris has no idea of this until John sails for London with his secretary Charlotte. Doris attempts to rescue the failing business with little luck until she meets Vassily Vassiloff, a mad Russian director. Although he has only six dollars to his name, he orders five million dollars in costumes. His self-confidence gives Doris the idea of presenting him to theatrical producers Lou and Jake Delman as a genius. Vassiloff's bizarre behavior, such as having the orchestra hum their music from the balcony, tearing out the seats on the first floor for an underwater ballet and buying ten thousand dollars worth of elephants, convinces the Delmans of his genius. John returns and demands his half of the now successful business. Doris counters by convincing Charlotte that John is two-timing her, which results in Charlotte signing an affidavit of improper employer conduct. Doris's happiness is complete when Vassiloff's show is a sensation.
