Synopsis

Pat, who keeps things running at Colonel Gowdy's circus, is in love with Joe, the barker. She keeps their affair secret, however, when her younger sister Irene joins the circus during her school vacation. The rest of the employees quit because the Colonel has not been able to pay them, and Pat takes their places. Pat plans a surprise birthday party for Joe and asks Irene to keep him occupied during the day. While they are together, Irene confesses that she has fallen in love with Joe and plans to drop out of school to stay with him. Joe also believes that he is in love with Irene. After a huge fight breaks out at the circus, Pat decides to send Irene home. Irene refuses to go, announcing that she wants to stay with Joe. Brokenhearted, Pat breaks off her relationship with Joe. Meanwhile, a troublemaker tells Irene about Joe and Pat, and Irene accuses her sister of sending her home to keep her away from Joe. Not knowing what else to do, Pat quits the circus. Before too long, Joe comes looking for her with Irene and her Aunt Sarah. Joe realizes that it is Pat that he loves. Irene is also happy to return home, finally admitting that she really loves her home-town boyfriend. Joe proposes to Pat and she eagerly accepts.
