Synopsis

Johnny Quinlan, who loses his job as a drugstore clerk, finally agrees to work for racketeer "Nifty" Herman, whom he believes to be a bootlegger; and he accepts for safekeeping a suitcase, which he takes home. Although he hides the suitcase under a chair, his inquisitive wife, Lottie, discovers it, and Newton, his sister's sweetheart, who is a government agent, recognizes it as a "hot" grip that he and his associates have been trailing in their pursuit of a narcotics gang. Newton is obliged to accuse Johnny, but as he is about to take him to jail, Nifty arrives, and Johnny tricks him into revealing that he (Johnny) was unaware of the contents of the suitcase. He thus exposes Nifty as the leader of the narcotics gang; Newton captures his man and awards Johnny with a job as his assistant.
