Synopsis
Leo Kroll, an obese hospital laboratory technician, is questioned by police after the strangulation of a nurse, the eighth in a string of similar murders. After his release, he visits his possessive mother, who has survived a recent heart attack largely with the aid of her nurse, Clara. Leo hates Clara for her devotion to his mother and on the following night, after winning a doll at the amusement park stand operated by Tally and Barbara, he strangles Clara in her apartment and smashes the doll against the wall. Questioned by the police again, he voluntarily takes and passes a lie detector test. Warned about his mother's condition, Leo deliberately tells her about Clara's murder, and she suffers a fatal heart attack. At the amusement stand he sees Barbara talking to a detective. When Leo learns she was questioned about dolls, he strangles her. Aware that he is now a prime suspect, Leo desperately proposes to Tally and becomes furious when she rejects him. Later, as he is about to strangle Tally, the police rush into her apartment and Leo plunges through a window to his death.
