Synopsis
Duke and Slim, two smalltime sharpies, steal a car belonging to Joe Braden, an ex-convict who is having a difficult time making a living as a salesman. They then rob a bank and hide the loot in the car's spare tire. Before they can retrieve the money, however, the automobile is repossessed by a finance company. The local parish priest, Father Dan, buys the used car to take a long-postponed fishing trip. En route, he is stopped by a police officer and, because he is unrecognizable as a priest in his fishing attire, arrested for the bank robbery. Though he is freed the next day, young Joe Braden is arrested for the crime. When the police complain that Father Dan is coddling criminals in his parish, the monsignor decides to transfer him to another church. The parishioners become so upset by this decision that Duke and Slim, thoroughly ashamed of the trouble they have caused Father Dan and Joe, confess to the robbery. The resultant publicity has a beneficial effect upon Joe's career.
