Kaufman's early acting career consisted of roles in various films, such as the Burt Reynolds comedy "Starting Over" (1979), "Desperately Seeking Susan" (1985) with Rosanna Arquette and "Krush Groove" (1985). He also appeared in "Wicked Stepmother" (1989) and "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation" (1989) with Chevy Chase. Kaufman also contributed music to "Her Family Jewels" (1975). His film career continued throughout the eighties and the nineties in productions like the Jeff Bridges remake "The Vanishing" (1993) and the Anthony Hopkins biopic drama "Nixon" (1995). More recently, he tackled roles in the action picture "Freeway" (1996) with Kiefer Sutherland and the comedic drama "Bulworth" (1998) with Warren Beatty. Most recently, Kaufman acted on "The Guardian" (CBS, 2001-04).
