Biography

Lamont Johnson worked on a variety of projects during his entertainment career. Early on in his acting career, Johnson landed roles in various films, including "Retreat, Hell!" Biography

Lamont Johnson worked on a variety of projects during his entertainment career. Early on in his acting career, Johnson landed roles in various films, including "Retreat, Hell!" (1952), the comedy "Sally and Saint Anne" (1952) with Ann Blyth and "The Glory Brigade" (1953) with Victor Mature. He also appeared in the thriller "The Brothers Rico" (1957) with Richard Conte. In the seventies and the eighties, Johnson devoted his time to various credits, such as "Sunnyside" (1979), "Cattle Annie and Little Britches" with Burt Lancaster (1981) and "Death Wish II" (1982). He also worked on "Spacehunter" with Peter Strauss (1983). Johnson won a Television 1953-1970 Directors Guild of America Award for "My Sweet Charlie" in 1970 as well as a Movies For Television and Mini-Series Directors Guild of America Award for "That Certain Summer" in 1972. Johnson was nominated for a Best Directing In Drama Primetime Emmy Award for "The Execution of Private Slovik" in 1974 as well as for an Outstanding Directing In a Special Program Primetime Emmy Award for "Fear on Trial" in 1976. Johnson was most recently credited in "Dads" (Fox, 2013-14). He also worked in television during these years, including a part on "The Parent 'Hood" (WB, 1994-99). Additionally, he could be seen on a variety of television specials like "The Last Days of Russell" (ABC, 1994-95) and "Rod Serling: Submitted For Your Approval" (PBS, 1995-96). Johnson passed away in October 2010 at the age of 88.
