He began his acting career with roles in the series "Family Matters" (1989-1998), "Chicago Hope" (CBS, 1994-2000) and "John Grisham's The Client" (CBS, 1995-96). He also appeared in the TV movie "The Colony" (USA, 1995-96). Dorkin also provided his talents as a voice actor for the Tom Hanks smash hit animated adventure "Toy Story" (1995). In the nineties, Dorkin devoted his time to various credits, such as "Village of the D*mned" (1995) starring Christopher Reeve, "The Land of the Free" (HBO, 1997-98) and "Washington Square" (1997) starring Jennifer Jason Leigh. He also worked on "The Proposition" (1998) and "The Story of Us" (1999). He also was featured in the TV movie "Just Ask My Children" (Lifetime, 2001). Dorkin most recently worked on "College" (2008).
