Smiley's career beginnings included film roles in the Bob Hope comedy "My Favorite Spy" (1951) and the James Stewart thrilling adaptation "Rear Window" (1954). Later, Smiley acted in the Edward G Robinson crime feature "A Bullet For Joey" (1955), "Party Girl" (1958) and "Get Smart" (CBS, 1965-1970). He also appeared in "How I Spent My Summer Vacation" (NBC, 1966-67). Later in his career, Smiley acted in "Madigan" (1968).
