With brother Freddie and their sisters Rose and Vaetta, formed gospel group "The Stewart Four"; released 78 rpm single "On the Battlefield of the Lord"

Adopted stage name Sly Stone and formed group Sly & The Stoners; meanwhile, brother formed Freddie & the Stone Souls
1967
Combined group with brother's band to form Sly and the Family Stone; released debut album A Whole New Thing

Fourth studio album Stand! spawned hit single "Everyday People"
