1952

With brother Freddie and their sisters Rose and Vaetta, formed gospel group "The Stewart Four"; released 78 rpm single "On the Battlefield of the Lord"

1966

Adopted stage name Sly Stone and formed group Sly & The Stoners; meanwhile, brother formed Freddie & the Stone Souls

1967

Combined group with brother's band to form Sly and the Family Stone; released debut album A Whole New Thing

1969

Fourth studio album Stand! spawned hit single "Everyday People"

1969

Performed with group at historic Woodstock music festival

1970

Released Greatest Hits album

1975

Sly and the Family Stone disbanded; released solo debut High on You

1976

Assembled new Family Stone lineup and released Heard Ya Missed Me, Well I'm Back

1987

Recorded "Eek-a-Boo Static Automatic" for soundtrack to "Soul Man"

1993

Inducted into Rock and Roll Hall of Fame along with the Family Stone
