Miller's acting career began mostly with his roles in various films, such as "Parasite" (1982), the dramatic adaptation "Jacknife" (1989) with Robert De Niro and the action picture "Dead Men Can't Dance" (1997) with Michael Biehn. He additionally landed roles in the TV movies "April Morning" (CBS, 1987-88) and "Day One" (CBS, 1988-89). He continued to act in productions like the Diane Lane dramedy "A Walk on the Moon" (1999) and "Friday After Next" (2002). He also worked in television around this time, including a part on "Dharma & Greg" (ABC, 1997-2002). Miller continued to exercise his talent in the 2010s, taking on a mix of projects like "Breaking Amish" (TLC, 2012-15), "All is Bright" (2013) starring Paul Giamatti and "Very Good Girls" (2014) starring Dakota Fanning. His credits also expanded to "Winter's Tale" (2014). Most recently, Miller worked on the action flick "Run All Night" (2015) with Liam Neeson.
