Biography
It's unsurprising that the son of the man who wrote over a dozen James Bond screenplays would enter the film business, though Paul Maibaum opted to pick up the camera instead of the pen. He studied at the prestigious University of Southern California School of Cinema-Television, and soon after was assisting director of photography Michael P. Joyce on TV movies. In the late '80s, Maibaum stepped up to the cinematographer position on low-budget action films, beginning with the science fiction adventure "Phoenix the Warrior." He moved into television with such series as the "Ferris Bueller's Day Off"-inspired "Parker Lewis Can't Lose" and a TV adaptation of the '80s comedy "Weird Science." In the second half of the '90s, Maibaum had a run of features and TV movies, including the mysterious tale "The Langoliers," based on a Stephen King story. Back on the small screen, he shot such notable programs as the fantasy "Sliders," and the popular FX motorcycle-gang series "Sons of Anarchy."
