Biography
Ashok Kumar was an actor who made a successful career for himself in film. Kumar began his acting career appearing in various films, such as "Masoom" (1960), "Bandini" (1963) and "Gumrah" (1963). He also appeared in "Mamta" (1966) with Dharmendra and "Aashirwad" (1968). His film career continued throughout the sixties and the seventies in productions like "Aansoo Ban Gaye Phool" (1969), "Pakeezah" (1972) and "Phool Khile Hain Gulshan Gulshan" (1978). He also appeared in the foreign "Tumhare Liye" (1978) with Sanjeev Kumar and "Before the Monsoon" (1979). Kumar was most recently credited in the drama "I Know You Know" (2009) with Robert Carlyle. Kumar continued to exercise his talent in the nineties through the early 2000s, taking on a mix of projects like "Aasoo Bane Angaarey" (1993) starring Bindu, "Funny Man" (1994) and "The Hustons: Hollywood's Maverick Dynasty" (1998-99). His credits also expanded to "Sandstorm" with Nandita Das (2003) and "Spirit Trap" (2005). Kumar passed away in December 2001 at the age of 90.
