Biography
For two decades a curator in the film department of the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, Harvey organized a series of memorable retrospectives on such major filmmakers as Vincente Minnelli, Michael Curtiz, Vittorio de Sica and Joseph L. Mankiewicz. Harvey joined MOMA immediately after completing a Master's degree in cinema studies at NYU, and supplemented his curatorial contributions to the history and study of the cinema with regular writings in a wide variety of film publications. His elegantly crafted and acutely observed books include "Directed by Vincente Minnelli," a definitive study of the director's career, as well as fine studies of the film careers of Fred Astaire and Joan Crawford. Harvey also wrote criticism regularly for the Village Voice and Film Comment.
