Guest Programmer: Edgar Wright

Edgar Wright, TCM Guest Programmer for June, is an English filmmaker and actor best known for his comic film trilogy: Shaun of the Dead (2004), Hot Fuzz (2007) and The World's End (2013). Wright also co-wrote, produced and directed Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010) and co-wrote the screenplay for Steven Spielberg's The Adventures of Tintin (2011).

Wright, who has hosted programs of classic and cult films in Los Angeles, is a fan of TCM and has attended some of our film festivals, including this year's TCM Classic Film Festival. He surprises host Robert Osborne with his first programming choice, Dames (1934), which he picks because of the "hypnotic magic" of Busby Berkeley's musical numbers. Wright then chooses three films from the 1970s that have had an influence on his own work: the mystery The Last of Sheila (1973), with its "amazingly dense" screenplay; The Super Cops (1974), with an "astonishing" lead performance by Ron Leibman; and Lindsay Anderson's "savage satire" O Lucky Man! (1973, TCM premiere).
