Synopsis

Johnny Cash is seen through the eyes of his former manager, Canadian impresario Saul Holiff - the man who put Johnny together with June Carter - and a filmmaker son looking for his father in the shadow of a legend. Following his father's suicide, director Jonathan Holiff discovered hundreds of letters and audio diaries, including secretly recorded phone calls with Cash during his crazed, pill-fueled jags in the 1960s, his triumphs at Folsom and San Quentin, his wedding to June Carter and his conversion to born-again Christianity in the early 1970s. These artifacts provide a behind-the-scenes view of the complex relationship between musical icon and his long-suffering manager whose collaboration created a superstar as each struggled with personal demons.
