Synopsis

Having run away from her drunken stepfather's English roadside cafe, 17-year-old Carol Flynn hitches a ride to Covent Garden in Soho, where she gets a job in a restaurant through the efforts of Princess Sophia, a fortune-teller she befriended at a nearby amusement arcade. Carol repulses the advances of the proprietor, Mort Wilson, and begins to see Joe Shane, a would-be club singer. The crooner marries her when she becomes pregnant, and they decide to emigrate to Canada where they hope Joe will be able to secure an engagement. To finance this venture, Joe breaks into Wilson's house to steal some money, but when the restaurant owner awakens, a gun battle ensues during which Joe is wounded and Wilson killed. Joe steals a car and, together with Carol, drives into the country. The police trail them through the woods and watch Joe die from loss of blood as he is about to stand and fight them with his gun. Carol falls sobbing beside her dead husband's body.
