Synopsis

In 1830 Sir Edgar, an English nobleman, arrives in a German town and, without speaking a word, astonishes and intrigues the townspeople with his strange collection of servants and animals. Playing on the townspeople's gullibility, the elderly and eccentric Englishman ultimately reveals his contempt for them by convincing them of the existence of a "young lord" who in fact does not exist.
