Synopsis
In 16th century Poland, Wawrzek, an orphan boy from the country, runs away from his master. Upon his arrival in Krakow, he witnesses a church robbery by a mysterious pilgrim who is later caught through information Wawrzek supplies to the authorities. Awarded a pair of yellow slippers by the King for his bravery, Wawrzek becomes an apprentice to the famous sculptor, Wit Stwosz. The thief, vowing revenge, returns and abducts Wawrzek, whom he trains as his assistant. However, Wawrzek is rescued in time to see the unveiling of Stwosz's masterpiece, the Altar of St. Mary's Church.
