Synopsis
The owner of a small grocery store, in despair over the business he is losing to a nearby supermarket, commits suicide. Reiko, his widow, continues operating the business for 18 years, despite pressure by the family to convert the store into another supermarket. Koji, Reiko's brother-in-law, confesses his love for her, but she gently rejects him, preferring to remain faithful to her husband's memory. As Koji persists, Reiko finally gives in to his advances, but her guilt over the affair causes her to ultimately rebuff him, after which he commits suicide.
