Synopsis
Dan Davis is awakened at 6 a.m. by the police, who tell him that his wife, Pat, has been struck and killed by a truck. As his mind wanders back over the past, he begins to realize that his wife was not on her job as a nurse, but was actually working at a motel as a prostitute: Pat is approached by Tony at a bar where she has been drinking to forget her losses at the racetrack. He tells her that easy money is to be made at his motel just outside of town. She meets other women at work, witnesses several intimate affairs, and at last submits to Tony's advances to begin a new career. A month later she meets a neighbor on the job, who confesses their association to his wife. Realizing that she will soon be exposed, Pat tells Tony that she is quitting. They struggle, and Pat breaks away, dashing out the door into the path of an oncoming truck.
