Synopsis

Rose and Steve Bradley come to New York from a small town in the South. They are met on their arrival by two old friends, Dolly and Fred Moulton. While the men are at work, Dolly takes Rose to a card game where she meets Dolly's lover Perky and her wealthy friend, John Graham. Graham becomes very attracted to Rose. He lets her win $500 at cards and invites her to a dinner party. Later Graham returns to the office where Steve and Fred are his employees. He shows Steve an expensive bracelet he is sending to Rose, unaware that she is Steve's wife. Trying to make a good impression, Steve invites Graham home for dinner. Before their arrival, Rose receives the bracelet, and although she intends to send it back, Dolly snaps it on her wrist. When Steve and Graham arrive at the apartment, Rose is stunned to learn who her admirer is. Steve becomes suspicious when he notices Rose's bracelet, but she pretends it is actually an inexpensive piece of jewelry. Fred is also suspicious of Dolly. While she is entertaining Perky, a detective that Fred has hired bursts into the apartment. Perky runs down the fire escape before the detective can catch him, so when the detective finds Graham's card, he assumes he was the man who escaped. The day after the dinner party, Graham demands that Rose give up her husband. As she is pleading with Graham, Fred shows up to confront him about the affair he thinks he is having with Dolly. Rose hides, believing that Fred is Steve. When she hears a shot, she assumes that Steve has killed Graham and she runs away before Steve arrives. Seeing Rose's bracelet, Steve, on the other hand, assumes that Rose shot Graham. They both arrive home just as Dolly announces that she is leaving Fred, who then bursts in and admits that he shot Graham believing him to be Dolly's lover. Fred then shoots at Dolly but misses. Graham recovers and sends Steve to England to represent the company there. Rose happily accompanies him for a new start in Europe.
