Synopsis

Michael Vance, the dissolute playboy son of wealthy Michael Vance, Sr., is sent by his father to the Canadian Northwest to investigate the potential of a uranium mine. Once there, Michael is brutally treated by Carson, the duplicitious mine superintendent who is in league with Vance's partner Winton to cheat Vance out of the valuable mine. Michael is befriended by Dr. MacTavish, a scientist, and the priest, Father Devlin, who informs him of Carson's intentions. Michael's regeneration begins when he falls in love with Towanah, a native girl, and consequently, when MacTavish discovers a process by which radium can be cheaply produced, Michael determines to defeat Carson's scheme and prevent his father from selling the mine. Attempting to stop Michael from reaching Vance in time, Carson sabotages his flight to New York, causing the plane to crash. Injured in the crash, Michael is saved by the dog Silver, who defends him from a pack of wolves. He then successfully makes his way to New York just in time to stop his father from selling the mine. Recognizing the amazing transformation that Michael has gone through, his New York sweetheart Natalie surrenders him to the love of native girl Towanah.

Notes

Although reviews indicate that the film was based on a story by Jack London, it does not appear to be based on a specific story or novel written by the author. The PCA certification stub lists the production company as Paul Malvern, and although most sources credit Malvern as producer, none mention his production company. Although the copyright records list the dog's name as Silver, the Variety review and the CBCS lists his name as Smokey. A news item in Hollywood Reporter adds that the film was shot on location at Big Bear, CA.
