Synopsis
Eastern schoolteacher Linda Gibson and Sissy, her companion, arrive in Flagstaff, in the Arizona territory on the same day that Dr. David Morrow, the local physician, is asked by Johnny, an orphaned Indian boy, to care for an injured wild colt. Though convinced that the colt will die, David agrees to treat the horse, which Johnny names "Wild Beauty." Later, David tells Linda and Sissy about the hard life the Indians have on the reservation, and that Linda must understand their way of life if she is to be a successful teacher there. Johnny soon nurses Wild Beauty back to health, in hopes that the young colt will help him "becomes friends" with the herd of wild horses living on the reservation. Linda later goes to Barney, Johnny's guardian, and insists that the storekeeper take Johnny's riding privileges away from him until the young boy begins attending school. The heartbroken Johnny then runs away from home, but David and Barney find the boy by searching the frontier for Wild Beauty, whom Johnny had previously reunited with his mother. David then returns to the reservation and insists that Linda tender her resignation, but the schoolteacher stays on after Johnny accepts her apology and agrees to go to school. Later, Gordon Madison, Linda's old boyfriend, arrives at the reservation to ask Linda to return to the East with him, though she is now practically engaged to David. After seeing Gordon kiss Linda, however, David mistakenly believes that she is in love with the Easterner. Meanwhile, Gordon and John Andrews, a local rancher, make plans to slaughter the herd of wild horses and use their hides in Gordon's shoe factory. Knowing that they cannot touch the horses while they remain on the Indian reservation, Andrews and his men secretly corral the wild horses onto his property. Johnny, however, senses that Wild Beauty is in trouble and rushes out of the classroom. Linda tells David and Barney about the boy's sudden departure, and they rush off after him. Johnny is shot by one of Andrew's cowboys as he approaches the herd, and is later discovered by David and Barney. Meanwhile, Wild Beauty breaks down the corral's gate and releases the wild herd. Andrews, who has ridden off to kill the wounded Johnny, attempts to shoot David, but is instead killed by the stampeding wild horses. David then returns to the reservation, beats Gordon unconscious, and puts the Easterner on the outgoing stage. David and Linda are then united, as are Johnny and Wild Beauty.
