Synopsis
Just before his new perfume, "Temptation," is to be introduced to the public, tycoon Marshall Forrest quarrels with his girl friend, model Adele Jordan, who is to be the "Temptation Girl" in a vast publicity campaign. Marshall had hired a private detective to follow Adele and learned that she met with a mysterious man, and her refusal to reveal the man's identity prompts Marshall to end their relationship. Marshall decides to find a new Temptation Girl, much to the dismay of Cordova, the owner of the modeling firm for which Adele works, and Stafford Shayne, who runs the advertising agency handling the Temptation account. Shayne assigns brash, young advertising man Johnny Hanley to the case, and although Johnny tries to smooth over the quarrel between Marshall and Adele, Marshall demands that he find a new model. With only a few hours left before the printer's deadline for the Temptation photographs, Johnny and Cordova's chief photographer, Stacy Dorn, decide to create a composite of the best features of Cordova's most stunning models. Several of the girls, who are unaware of the scheme, supply the legs, torso, shoulders and lips for the photograph, but when Sherry "The Eyes" Hutton turns up with a black eye from her combatative boyfriend, Johnny convinces his own girl friend, Ellen Trennis, to supply the nose, eyes and forehead for the photograph. Adele's blonde hair and distinctive couiffure top off the photograph, which enthralls Marshall. Despite his earlier declaration that he did not want to meet the new model, Marshall now decides that he must see the lovely girl in person. A frantic Johnny, Cordova and Stacy convince the brunette Ellen to become blonde bombshell "Colleen O'Hara," the name they have given their composite model. Despite her initial reluctance, Ellen soon appreciates the attentive Marshall, who is markedly different from workaholic Johnny, who has a tendency to break dates. Johnny's jealousy increases as Ellen confesses that she enjoys the luxuries and compliments that Marshall lavishes on her, and he agrees to appear in public with Adele, who wants to win Marshall back by making him jealous. While the mixup of couples continues, Adele's suspicions that Ellen is not what she seems grow. One evening, Adele gets Stacy drunk and learns the truth about the composite photograph, which she then shares with the other models. The next day, at the press reception to introduce the Temptation Girl, Marshall tries to persuade Ellen to let him announce their engagement. Heartbroken that Johnny has not appeared, Ellen considers Marshall's proposal, but declares that she must first tell him the truth about herself. Before they can continue, however, Adele interrupts the reception by introducing the other models and revealing the secret of the photograph. The reporters are enchanted by the idea of having "a bouquet of American beauties" represent the perfume, and the concept is a big success. Johnny arrives at the reception and reunites with Ellen, and Marshall proposes to Adele after she admits that the man the detective saw her with was her hairdresser. Marshall then insists that the couples have a double wedding, after which they plan to tour the country with the new Temptation Girls.
