Synopsis

Captain Yeullat, a young British officer, on furlough in London from duty in India, prevents a young woman, Ruth Dangan, from drowning herself in the Thames, but she disappears before he learns her identity. Later, with his regiment in India, he meets her as the wife of Colonel Dangan, his commanding officer, and they fall in love. Finding himself in an impossible position, Yeulla has himself transferred to another regiment. Later, at a lonely outpost, he receives word that British travelers have been besieged by natives at a Buddhist monastery and leads his men to the rescue; there he finds Ruth and her party trying to defend the building, and during the battle they pledge their love, expecting to die together. But Dangan arrives with reinforcements and saves them; circumstantially, he is killed by a sniper, clearing the way for the marriage of Ruth and the captain.
