Synopsis

After killing rancher Jeff Conway, unscrupulous cattleman Matt Taylor begins a reign of terror against the ranchers in the valley. Taylor, who controls the rustlers that have been raiding his cattle, uses the raids as an excuse to raise the going rate for cattle. After Jeff's daughter Madge persuades the other ranchers to pay the rancher's exhorbitant prices, she and her cowhands hold up Taylor's men, who are returning from town with money bags containing the ill-gotten profits from Taylor's scheme. Madge returns the money to the ranchers, but is told to hide in the mountains after she is accused of killing one of Taylor's henchmen. U.S. Marshal McClain arrives in the valley, supposedly intent on capturing Steve Lawlor, a suspected murderer. He and his posse find Steve in the mountains, where a gun battle ensues. Though injured in the battle, Steve manages to escape and is later joined by McClain, who knows that Steve is a fellow marshal. In order to keep Steve's cover, McClain is forced to arrest him when the posse arrives. Taylor, however, helps Steve escape as he believes that Steve can locate Madge. When the two marshals are reunited, they agree that Taylor is the mastermind of the valley terrorist attacks. The two men decide to search his ranch, where they find the torches used to start the valley fires. Meanwhile, Taylor discovers Steve's true identity, and is warned by one of his men that he is about to be arrested. Taylor prepares for a showdown, and when Steve approaches him, he confesses to killing Conway and to framing Madge for his henchman's murder, which he committed himself. Just as Taylor is about to murder Steve, the townspeople burst onto the scene and help Steve defeat the gang.
