Synopsis

Jim Bannister is delayed in returning to his ranch due to a cattle roundup, but when he does get back, he finds that all his ranch hands have deserted and gone to Ridgeville. Ridegeville, a former ghost town, is now bustling with miners and ranch hands-turned-miners because of a gold strike. On his way into town, Jim diverts a stagecoach robbery, earning the admiration of Millie Harkins, whose father is the new judge. Mack Gorman has appointed himself mayor of Ridgeville and takes custody of Jim's prisoners, who are actually Gorman's confederates. Judge Harkins tries the prisoners, but Gorman has gotten to the stagecoach driver, who refuses to admit to being robbed. While out on a ride together, Jim and Millie are ambushed on Gorman's orders, but Jim bests both of his attackers and takes one to town. While there, Jim rounds up his ranch hands, Nevada and Banjo, who have fallen victim to the gold strike and Gorman's manipulations, and sends them back to the ranch. After Gorman pretends to pick jurors out of a hat to prove that the law is not corrupt, he engineers a plot to force the Harkinses and Jim out of town. One night, Gorman's thugs kidnap the judge and Millie and force Harkins to write a note asking Jim to visit him at an abandoned farmhouse. Jim recognizes the note as a frame-up and, after sneaking up on Gorman's thugs, releases the Harkinses. In town, Jim fights with Gorman, while another fight ensues between Gorman's men and Jim's men. The law defeats the lawless, and Millie and Jim take the prisoners to jail.
