Synopsis

During the Korean War, a group of soldiers is ordered to destroy a communist bunker, but Sergeant Keefer hides in terror as the others are killed while performing their duty. Keefer takes sole credit for the victory, claiming the other men were cowards. But his superior learns the truth, and Keefer shoots him to guarantee the medal he expects to receive. Assuming command, the sergeant is told that a truce has been declared, but he leads his unknowing men in gunning down defenseless enemy soldiers who have honored the agreement. Keefer is killed by retaliating communists as Sergeant Garth, who is aware of the truth, returns to United Nations lines with Yung Chi, a Korean girl rescued during their operations. Although he considers exposing Keefer's treachery, Garth fails to do so, thereby leaving the sergeant posthumously eligible for the medal he craved.
