Synopsis
After the death of his beloved wife, aging industrialist Mathias Clausen rejects his four children, whose preoccupations seem to him superficial. Although the widower is later turned from thoughts of suicide and revitalized by his love for the youthful Inken Peters, his family opposes the romance, and the relationship results in heartbreak for the young woman.
