Synopsis
Despite his love for cattle, Tonto Daley is a miserable failure as a cowhand and is demoted to chuckwagon driver. Tonto even fails at that job when, during a cattle crossing, he overturns the wagon, nearly drowning his only passenger, Nina Weston, the ranch owner's daughter. Instead of firing Tonto, the ranch foreman, Munther, uses him as a scapegoat in his secret scheme to steal some of the herd. After the cattle disappear, Munther warns Tonto to leave town. Tonto bids a fond farewell to Nina, apologizing for dumping her in the river, and reluctantly takes up hog farming with his best friends, Porky and Tex. He finds hog farming humiliating, and his persistent melancholy inspires Porky and Tex to take him across the border to find him a wife. Porky and Tex build up Tonto by comparing him to Billy the Kid, but Tonto is humiliated and exposed as a fake in front of Nina, who is in the same town. Unable to bear his shame any longer, Tonto flies into a rage, beats up everyone, and kidnaps Nina, vowing to marry her. He hides out in a deserted cabin, but when the posse arrives, Nina pushes him through a trapdoor to a cavern below. Instantly regretful that she hurt him, Nina goes down to help Tonto, and they discover her father's missing herd. Nina goes for help, while Tonto fiercely fights Munther. Porky, Tex and the posse arrive just in time to arrest the true cattle thieves, and Nina defends Tonto to her father, promising Tonto that they will be together while he manages her father's hog farm.
