Synopsis

When Fred Dean Sr. discovers that his brother Kirk has been selling their Double Bar O cattle in order to pay his gambling debt, he confronts Kirk. Later that night, a shot from Kirk's gun rings out in the dark, killing Fred. Twenty years later, Fred's killer still has not been brought to justice, and Kirk is now owner of the Double Bar O. Kirk and his henchman, Bill Barton, are trying to drive young rancher Tom Bradfield from his Bar Z ranch by rustling Bar Z cattle, but the operation is hampered by a masked rider known as the Two Gun Troubadour. Fred's son, Fred Jr., decides to return to the homestead, and along the trail, he finds Tom wounded by one of the rustlers and takes him to the Bar Z, where Tom tells him about Kirk's treachery. Befriended by his father's old friend, Elmer Potts, Fred decides to pose as Fred Evans and takes a job as cowpuncher on the Bar Z. Soon afterward, Kirk is returning from Mexico with the proceeds from the sale of the Bar Z cattle when the Troubadour robs him and presents the money to Tom. To eliminate the Troubadour, Bill dresses up as the masked man and shoots Tom, who traces the name Troubadour in the sand before dying, thus prompting the sheriff to issue a warrant for the masked rider's arrest. After Tom's death, his sister Helen comes to take over the Bar Z, and when she discovers Fred's disguise, she turns him into the sheriff. Jailed for murder, Fred instructs Elmer to pose as the Troubadour, and is released in a case of mistaken identity. Kirk, still plotting to take over the Bar Z, decides to frame Helen for stealing the Double Bar 0 cattle, but before he can complete his plan, Fred captures both Kirk and Bill and tricks Bill into thinking that Kirk denounced him as Tom's murderer. Believing that he has been betrayed, Bill testifies that he witnessed Kirk murder Fred Sr., and with both killers brought to justice, Fred and Helen decide to unite their lives and their ranches.
