Synopsis

When the marshal of Piru is killed during a bank robbery, Marshal Smith, the head lawman, sends for his son Trigger to take charge of the case. Trigger, who had resigned from the service, heeds his father's call when he learns that the murdered lawman was his younger brother. In Piru, Trigger and his friend Lopez meet Buck and his young sister Jean. Buck discovers that Trigger is a lawman, but promises not to divulge his secret if Trigger will let him work with him. Because Buck is familiar with the surrounding countryside, Trigger agrees to his terms. Working undercover, Trigger takes a job at the ranch belonging to Buck, Jean and their brother Bud, because he suspects that Bud is working with the outlaws. An empty strongbox is planted to lure the outlaws, and when they fall for the trap, Buck leads Trigger to their hideout where one of the outlaws recognizes Trigger as a lawman. After a narrow escape, Trigger rides to town where Bud is killed in a showdown. Meanwhile, Lopez has assembled the rangers and he and Buck lead them to the gang's hideout, where Trigger is waiting. After a shootout, the outlaws are arrested, and Trigger tells Jean and Buck that Bud was working undercover for him to clear his name. Her brother's name thus exonerated, Jean offers Trigger a job as foreman of the ranch and he accepts.
