Synopsis
Gene Brooks, a drug addict and pusher, goes to Times Square to pick up a shipment of heroin and becomes trapped in a building by syndicate boss Mr. Claude, an elderly esthete confined to a wheelchair. Gene is forced to the roof and pushed to his death by members of the vice syndicate. When police inform Gene's brother Tony that the death was a suicide, Tony sets out to prove his suspicion that Gene was killed. He learns from his brother's high school friends that Gene had become an addict and dealer and that Gene's girl friend Mary, also addicted to drugs, is living in a hotel for young women who support their habits by prostitution. One of the girls at the hotel informs on the gang who killed Gene; and as Tony's quest leads him to Mr. Claude, he is himself pursued by Mr. Claude's henchmen. The chase weaves through New York City and ends at Mr. Claude's swank penthouse. There Tony, intent upon having the gang and Mr. Claude brought to justice, volunteers to dive for a cache of heroin sunk off Fire Island. When Mr. Claude orders his men to kill Tony after he has recovered the package, Tony eludes them, turns the heroin over to the police, and leads them to Claude's hideout. Tony is captured by Claude's men, but during a struggle, Claude's wheelchair topples down a flight of stairs, killing him; the police arrive and round up the rest of the gang members.
