Synopsis

After young Billy survives an Indian attack during which his mother is killed and his father disappears, he is adopted by Joe Carson. Many years later, after the now grown Bill Carson prevents a robbery of the Streeter stagecoach, Doc Streeter gratefully offers him a position, as does Sheriff Jackson, who wants Bill as deputy. Bill, however, wants to finish law school and marry Jean Streeter. On the anniversary of the day Joe found him, Bill celebrates his twenty-first birthday. During the party, outlaw Tom Collins and his henchmen, Mike and Carter, rob the guests, then Collins shoots Joe during his escape, convincing Bill to take the deputy sheriff job. The next morning, Bill and the sheriff pursue the gang into their valley hideout. While the sheriff returns to town to raise a posse, Bill enters the valley alone. He is captured but manages to knock out one of the gang. Collins is about to have Bill killed when he notices the locket Bill has dropped and realizes that Bill is his son. Collins tries unsuccessfully to reveal his identity to Bill, but Bill insists on taking Collins into town to be tried. Collins is sentenced to hang and is led to the gallows without ever revealing that he is Bill's father.
