Synopsis

Accompanied by his parents and his children Midge, Timothy, and Kip, Ohio widower Ben Pride moves to Kansas shortly after the Civil War. Arriving in Lawrence, the homesteaders are harrassed by Confederate marauders led by Jud Barker. While Ben is away, the renegades attack the family camp outside of town, burning one of their wagons and seriously injuring Grandpa. Ben, fearing to return to the homestead, asks the help of Elizabeth Reynolds, daughter of a new doctor in town. The marauders attack the town, and Stacey Daggart, a psychopathic member of the band, murders Elizabeth's father and Grandma Pride. Having fallen in love with Elizabeth, Ben invites her to share his home. Although Elizabeth and Midge are abducted by Barker, who wants them to give medical aid to some of his wounded men, the women are rescued by Ben, Timothy, and Elizabeth's brother Chance.
