Synopsis
The town of Deadwood Gulch prepares to celebrate the anniversary of the death of Wild Bill Hickok. Calamity Jane, who owns the local saloon, throws a party every year so that people will not forget Bill, the only man she ever loved. Before the event, Matt Baker, a crooked gambler, offers to buy her out because her honest card games make it difficult for him to earn a living. When she refuses, he reveals that he has spoken with Cecelia Mullen, the niece of the deceased Frank Mullen, who left the saloon to Calamity after she saved his life. Cecelia claims that Frank left her the saloon and has sent her lawyer, Gordon Hastings, to challenge Calamity for the ownership. Despite this threat, Calamity refuses to sell. She and her employee, Colorado Charley, kidnap Gordon from the stagecoach and explain their position. Intrigued by Calamity, Gordon agrees to investigate and work out a compromise. After Gordon quarrels with Baker over his interest in the saloon, a sniper tries to kill him, but Calamity kills the sniper first. When Cecelia arrives in Deadwood, Gordon tells her Calamity's story, but she is not convinced and refuses to compromise with Calamity. Unknown to Gordon, Cecelia has a letter from Frank informing her that he gave Calamity the saloon. Later, the conniving Baker forces Cecelia to assign him power of attorney and steals Frank's letter. The next morning, Calamity finds Cecelia, who has been tied up by Baker, and learns what occurred. Cecelia and Gordon confront Baker and his men, and a shootout ensues. After Baker's men are arrested, Gordon and Cecelia, who have realized that they are in love, return to San Antonio, and Calamity keeps the saloon. When Calamity dies, twenty-seven years later, she is buried next to Wild Bill, her only true love.
