Synopsis

On a hot summer day, a crisis develops at a luxurious apartment house in Buenos Aires. Ten young boys and girls take over the pool and terrace on the roof of the building and indulge in whatever sport or game momentarily affords them pleasure. The only witness to their swimming, drinking, and lovemaking is 10-year-old Belita, the precocious granddaughter of the superintendent, who obligingly runs their errands and fetches their beer and whisky. When their elders attempt to end the monopolization of the terrace, the teenagers keep them at bay by threatening, one at a time, to leap from the parapet. As the drinking and lovemaking intensify, the pointless rebellion continues into the night, and the youngsters take Belita as their hostage. In the morning, when the parents dare to defy the rules of the game and storm the terrace, one of the boys grabs Belita and tosses her off the roof. She is not killed but severely injured. Months later the lame child plays alone in the empty pool on the terrace.
