Synopsis
Singer Ricardo Fuentes, about to sail to Barcelona, where he hopes to recoup his lost fortune, says goodbye to his faithful friend, Puccini. At the docks, Ricardo notices the beautiful Laura Montalbán and approaches her, but she rebuffs him. Puccini hides in the ship as a stowaway and, when caught, is given the job of guarding Laura's dogs. Also on the ship is Comandante, with whom Laura was associated in gambling enterprises, and who is now blackmailing her into helping him swindle the ship's wealthy passengers. When Ricardo catches Comandante stacking the deck in a poker game with Mr. and Mrs. Cohen, he insists upon cutting the deck, causing Comandante to lose. Later, during a concert on deck, Comandante filches Mrs. Cohen's diamond bracelet and signals Laura, who sends her dog leaping over the deck to retrieve it. When the captain stops the dog to pet him, Ricardo distracts him until the bracelet is safely in Laura's hands. Although she tries to thank him, Ricardo is cold to her. Later, however, in Barcelona, he gives her a job singing at his nightclub, the Tango Bar. After learning that the American Embassy suspects that he stole the bracelet, Ricardo pays a large sum to a pawnbroker named González, with whom Comandante hocked it, retrieves the bracelet and puts it in his safe. González and Comandante doublecross Ricardo and call the police, but when they search the safe, the bracelet is missing. Meanwhile, Laura tries to shoot González. Ricardo then tells Laura and Puccini that his safe is a double one, and has the bracelet returned to the Cohens. Disillusioned by Laura's crimes, Ricardo gives the Tango Bar to Puccini and abandons her, then boards a ship. She follows and convinces Ricardo of her reformed nature and her love for him.

The onscreen credits were taken from an incomplete print of the film, while the plot summary was based on material in the Paramount story files at the AMPAS Library. The Variety review for a New York "projection room" screening of the film gives a length of 87 min., although NYSA records list the film's length as 5,578 feet, suggesting a running time of about 62 min. South American film star Carlos Gardel was killed in a plane accident on June 24, 1935, a few days before the film's opening in New York.
