Synopsis
Johnnie and his friends work as rock musicians on a luxury liner. After their electric guitar amplifiers short out the ship's lights, the band and two waiters who assisted them are accused of conspiring to sink the ship and put to sea on a raft. When they reach the Canary Islands, Johnnie takes a job as stuntman for Douglas Leslie, an aging movie actor, and befriends Jenny, an inexperienced leading lady who is nervous about working with veteran filmmaker Lloyd Davis. Johnnie helps the novice rehearse her scenes, taking the part of the romantic male lead on and off the set. The gang decides that Johnnie's version is better than Davis', and, with the help of script girl Barbara, they secretly make a movie of their own with some scenes duplicated from Davis' film. Davis discovers their project and tries to sabotage the production, but both films reach completion. Since each version has good and bad scenes, Davis combines the two films; and the premiere is a critical triumph. Johnnie, now a successful director and leading man, asks Jenny to marry him and finds out that Davis, who has kept secret his relationship with Jenny, will be his father-in-law.
