Synopsis
After the Wentworth Lumber Company cuts down too many trees on Mount Warner, the ranchers in the valley below suffer flood damage to their lands. The ranchers ask company manager Phipps and camp foreman Bull Wilson to plant new trees, thereby preventing the dangerous runoff, but when confrontations with the uncaring Bull turn violent, rancher Gene Autry volunteers to go to the city and contact the company's president, Asa Wentworth. Accompanied by his pal, Frog Millhouse, Gene visits Asa, who tells them that he has turned control of the company over to his granddaughter Wilmetta, whom everyone calls Billie, and general manager Larry Drew. Asa is unhappy with the way they are running the business, however, and is very upset by Billie's interest in Larry, whom he does not trust. Hoping that Gene can straighten out his granddaughter, Asa sends him and Frog to Billie's country club to talk to her. While the fancy surroundings disorient Frog, Gene finds himself in trouble when he accidentally pushes Billie into a swimming pool. After the two friends are thrown out of the club, they return to Asa's house, where Asa decides to give a party and introduce Gene to Billie's influential friends. Asa sends out invitations in Billie's name and tells Gene to impress Susannah Hawkins Peabody, an animal lover whose husband Cornelius is the state lieutenant governor. Hoping that Susannah can preserve Mount Warner by getting it declared a state park, Gene tells her that it is a haven for wild animals. While Gene and Susannah are arranging for her to inspect the area, two of Billie's friends grow suspicious about her absence and telephone her at a nightclub. Unaware of her grandfather's complicity, and thinking that Gene and Frog are responsible, Billie has them arrested. Asa bails out the pair the next day and returns with them to the valley to organize a drive to turn the mountain into a park. Despite violent interference from Bull and his men, Gene succeeds in getting Susannah and a state committee to inspect the area, which has been stocked with wild animals by Frog. Frog carries his task too far, however, and when he leads out a lion and a panther, Susannah realizes that she has been tricked. Susannah, Cornelius, Larry and Billie leave in a huff, but a huge rainstorm begins and Gene warns them that the roads will be washed out. They depart anyway, and as the desperate citizens deal with being flooded out of their homes, Gene and Frog go after Asa's car. They succeed in getting out everyone but Asa after the car gets stuck on a bridge, and Gene then rescues Asa as he is swept into the river. Once they return to Gene's house, the sight of the displaced ranchers makes Billie realize that Gene has been telling the truth about their plight, and that Larry was only interested in exploiting the area. Determined to correct her mistakes, Billie fires Larry, puts Asa back in charge and supports the state park legislation. On the day the park is dedicated, Asa and Frog watch with satisfaction as Gene and Billie walk together.

The working title of this film, Under Fiesta Stars, was the release title of Gene Autry's next picture. Maris Wrixon was borrowed from Warner Bros. for the production, which was also to feature Republic contract player Mary Lee, who was removed from the cast when the studio decided to star her in "solo pictures." The viewed print did not contain some of the songs. Modern sources include the 9following actors in the cast: Reed Howes, Syd Saylor, Tex Terry, Lloyd Whitlock and Bob Woodward.
