Synopsis

Ranch owner Bill Dorn is depressed by the fact that he encouraged his neighbors to invest in an oil scheme devised by Mike Bundy, who made off with the investors' money when it became clear there was no oil to be found. Now Bundy is suckering the ranchers into believing there is gold in Ghost Town. When saloon owner Butch is found dead, Bundy accuses saloon hostess Lorna Kent of the murder, as she was the last to be seen with Butch. Bill furiously attacks Bundy, but his friend, Ken Fairchild, knocks him out because Bundy is reportedly the only one who knows where the gold strike is, although the gold was initially discovered by a man who was mysteriously shot in the back. Lorna helps Bill revive, and he finds out that she is his neighbor Nellie Kent's niece. Lorna came to help Nellie run Palm Ranch, but after her suitcase was stolen, she had to work at the saloon to earn some money before going to the ranch. Bundy has posted signs of ownership at Palm Ranch, which includes a freight road, and when Bill and Lorna arrive there, they discover the place deserted except for Bill's friend, Cap Jenks, who reveals that Nellie has died a mysterious death. Bill's neighbor, Diana Villegas, who is in love with Bundy, vows to help Bundy get Lorna and Bill off Palm Ranch. One day Bill confronts Bundy and demands to see his deed to Nellie's ranch, but Bundy refuses, so Bill hits him, believing Bundy was the one who knocked him unconscious in the saloon. Bill gathers $15,000 and sets up his own freight service with Cap and his ranchhands so Bundy cannot carry his freight into Ghost Town. Diana becomes jealous when she sees Bundy flirting with Nellie at Palm Ranch, although he claims he was only trying to buy her out. Bill's freight business flourishes, but one night the barn and wagons are set on fire. A gunfight ensues in which Bill captures Hank Smith, one of Bundy's thugs. After warning Ken that there is no gold in Ghost Town, Bill goes to see Diana, who is dying. She confesses that she ordered the fire so Lorna would leave and Bundy would still be hers. As the people realize the gold strike is a fake, Bundy leaves town, and Cap strikes gold on Palm Ranch. He and Bill realize that Bundy was after the gold there all along. Bundy takes Lorna captive, but Bill comes to her aid and fights with Bundy. Cap prevents him from killing Bundy, and Lorna comforts Bill, her wounded hero.
