Synopsis

Outside the Bar L Ranch, Hank Lawrence and his foreman, Bert Ford, are shot at by three men, but manage to evade their attackers. Later, Eddie and fellow cowboys Waco and Soapy arrive at the ranch to sell Hank some cattle but find the rancher gone. In Hank's absence, his sister Terry, who has been studying high finance at school, offers to negotiate the sale. When Hank finally arrives, he tells Eddie that his ranch has been singled out by cattle thieves, and he now stands to lose his contract to sell cattle to the government. Eddie explains that he has been assigned by the cattle association to investigate the thefts. At a café, Eddie notices that Waco is Bert's physical double and suggests that Bert, who is a target of the gunmen, hide out while Waco takes his place at the ranch. To ensure the success of the deception, Eddie warns Waco to stay away from Terry, who is in love with Bert. Meanwhile, rancher Ringo Evans plots with his accomplice, Knuckles, to kill Bert, who, he believes, stands between him and the destruction of the Bar L Ranch. After Eddie is shot at, he finds an ornament from a silver spur on the ground near where the gunmen were hiding. Later, Eddie notices that Hank's new ranch hand, Two Horn, is wearing a spur with a missing ornament and brings him to jail. Ringo then decides to supply his own judge and frame Hank for rustling. After "Judge" Smith arrests Hank, Terry hurries to Bert's hideout and begs him to reveal what he knows about the cattle thefts. After Bert protests that he has no proof of his suspicions, Eddie and Soapy search Ringo's office. There, they discover a branding iron that can change Hank's brand into Ringo's. Later, Bert reveals that he saw Ringo with the stolen cattle but said nothing because Ringo threatened to harm Terry and Hank. Then Bert recognizes Smith as a wanted criminal, and a shootout ensues, but Eddie wards off Ringo's men with dynamite and fireworks. Once the outlaws are in jail, the government renews Hank's contract. Terry then offers Eddie, Soapy and Waco jobs on the ranch and makes it clear that she has transferred her affections from Bert to Eddie.
