Synopsis

Wilbur Crane, a hen-pecked, milquetoast husband who long has had dreams about affairs with attractive young women, decides to attend an art class to take his mind off things. When the class proves ineffective, Wilbur picks up Dorothy, a prostitute, and begins spending all of his money on her. Soon Dorothy begs Wilbur for $500, which he steals from his employer. When Wilbur discovers that the money is needed to keep Dorothy's boyfriend Dan out of jail, Wilbur considers murdering Dorothy and attempting suicide. Just as his situation seems bleakest, Wilbur awakens to find that this has all been another dream. Soon his boss gives him a raise and he becomes more understanding of his middle-aged wife Martha.

Notes

No release date has been located for this unviewed film, although the dates of trade reviews suggest that it May have been exhibited theatrically in late 1960 or early 1961. According to reviews, Spring Affair included songs by composer Irving Bibo, but their titles have not been determined. The Daily Variety review stated that the film was "dedicated to the producer's late wife (50% of the profit is to be donated to the Cancer Fund)."
Spring Affair was a remake of a 1938 film entitled It's All in Your Mind, which was also written and directed by Bernard "B. B." Ray. Although neither the 1938 nor 1960 film has been viewed, existing sources indicate that the plots of the two films were almost identical. For more information on It's All in Your Mind, which starred character actor Byron Foulger as "Wilbur Crane," consult its entry in AFI Catalog of Feature Films, 1931-40.
